This piece was likely used for the safe storage of estate documents or valuables, and its form cleverly mirrors the very buildings whose deeds may have once been kept within. The box retains its original hardware, including a beautifully detailed cast brass handle, secure lock plates marked "Secure Lever," and a brass maker’s plaque reading:
“D. Cunninghame, Die Sinker & Co., 48 Buchanan St., Glasgow.”
